SCCM for OS Deployment

Citric have been doing a lot of System Center deployments recently, particularly of Configuration Manager, where companies are using the operating system deployment features to get their Windows 7 rollouts done. I've written up some notes on how one particular customer used SCCM to get control back over their sprawling laptops, and then liked it so much they used it for servers too. Here's the SCCM case study, which is more about how we worked with the customer than anything technical.

If you need more technical detail - for example:

  • How we switched the SCCM environment to native mode using Windows Certificate Server;
  • Overcoming problems with cloned machines upgraded from SMS 2003 to SCCM;
  • Reducing the size of the Configmgr database;
  • Using internet based client management (IBCM) for laptops;
